About Origin
Origin is a digital distribution and gaming platform developed by Electronic Arts, launched in June 2011. It served as EA's primary PC gaming platform until being phased out and replaced by the EA App in October 2022. Origin offered game purchases, digital downloads, cloud saves, achievements, friends list, chat, game stat tracking, and subscription services (Origin Access Basic, Origin Access Premier). The platform supported EA's major franchises including Battlefield, FIFA, Apex Legends, The Sims, Madden NFL, Star Wars Jedi, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Need for Speed, and Titanfall. Origin featured integration with Steam (EA games return to Steam), cross-platform play, and game streaming (Origin Cloud Gaming). The platform faced criticism for performance issues, offline mode limitations, and customer support, leading to its replacement by the EA App. Users were migrated to EA App, and Origin is no longer supported or available for download.
